“As For Me And My Household”

[Jos 24:15 NIV] 15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)

The God-centered family is one of the most powerful things exemplified in the scriptures! Firstly, as parents, we are challenged every day by a torrent of unspiritual media sources assailing the minds and souls of us and our children. Secondly, the advent of the COVID-19 epidemic has hit many of our children very hard with anxiety, isolation, and depression. Furthermore, as parents, we’ve all had our own pressures and struggles during the evolution of our culture and “norms” during the “Internet Age.” Technology may be a mixed blessing but parenting is not. Lastly, we need a message and a method to raise godly children and establish households that “serve the Lord.”

Households That Serve The Lord

The Word of God makes no apologies about the expectations and standards for households that “serve the Lord.” “[An overseer/church leader] must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. 5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)” (1st Timothy 3:4-5) Because we all want to do “more and more” for our Heavenly Father, we cannot overlook the vital “first ministry” of our families.

Great Examples of Servants

Sal and Patricia Velasco

Sal and Patricia Velasco

Sal & Patricia Velasco are the parents of three beautiful children, Priscila (19), Daniela (18), and Salvador Jr (8). Sal works full time for the church and Patricia works full time for the County of LA. They are in the Central Region led by Chris and Maraia Lastra. They are the Shepherds for the Central of the Region of City of Angels International Christian Church. Sal and Patricia are also appointed as Evangelist and Women’s ministry leader. They also lead the “Brave Hearts Ministry” which is focused on mental and emotional recovery. Because of their powerful family example, they also lead the Congregational Preteens for our sister church in LA. Lastly, we are very excited to have them join us in the Southwest to deliver our keynote speech Saturday morning!

We will be blessed to have parents from all over the Southwest! We are very grateful to be a part of the family of churches which includes Las Vegas, Albuquerque, San Diego, Tijuana, Tucson, and Phoenix! Princeton & Joy George, the leaders of the Las Vegas church, will be sharing about battling through “baby-fog!” The Lundes, who lead the recently planted church in Tucson, will be speaking about raising faithful teens. There will be a great discussion group as well as a Q&A session to close out the day. We are thankful for the oversight of Cory & Jee Blackwell and their invaluable counsel, support, and love!
