The 5 Core Convictions

We are a Bible Church Not a New Testament Church

66 books, 44 authors, 3 languages and it all fits together.

1947, Discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls (981 texts total) verified much of the OT. Entire copies of the Scroll of Isaiah found, much of Psalms as well and the first five books of the Torah (Pentateuch) Some of these manuscripts are as old as 408 BC.

Because of this we know that as disciples we need to read and obey not just the New Testament, but the entirety of God’s Word.

Silent Where the Bible Speaks, Speak Where the Bible is Silent

When the Scripture disallows a specific thing it is our obligation to obey, however some things are simply not included by name in the scriptures. In this latter instance we look to the Scriptures for guidance:

1 Corinthians 10:23 – “Everything is permissible”-but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible”-but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.

Whatever we practice, the guiding principle should be that it is constructive and seeks the good of others! The goal is that it would be beneficial!

Discipling is a Command of God, Not Optional

Matthew 13:44-46 – “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.” When these men found the Kingdom they sold all they had for the treasure, for the pearl. They were “Sold Out!”

Luke 18:9-14 – A discipling relationship is a place where you can confess your sins and get help being “taught to obey” Jesus’ commands. It is a partnership. It should mature over time.

Central Leadership with a Central Leader

Acts 15:1 – Disunity doctrinally! Is circumcision required for salvation or is not required. There is confusion through out several churches! Solution? Go to the central leadership in Jerusalem – the apostles and elders.

Acts 15:4 – Paul & Barnabas reported to the central leadership everything God had done through them. (Acts 21:18-19)

Acts 15:13;19-20 – James calls the shot here. The central leader of the central leadership. Acts 15:13 “Brothers, listen to me.” And in verse 19, “it is my judgment…”

Evangelize the Nations in this Generation

Colossians 1:6, 23 (60AD)

“All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God’s grace in all its truth.”

“…This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.”

From this scripture we can glean that the disciples of that day had succeeded in spreading the gospel to the known world in their day. Today we are charged with imitating them and repeating the feat in the digital age.

Evangelization of the Nations in this Generation

"Evangelism is not a professional job for a few trained men, but is instead the unrelenting responsibility of every person who belongs to the company of Jesus."

Lesslie Newbigin

"The work of Christ is a missionary work, and every true follower of His is a missionary."

Roland Allen

"The Special Missions Contribution is an opportunity for every disciple to sacrifice for the kingdom and spread the good news throughout the world."

Kip McKean
