The Love of Jesus

1 John 3:16
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.”

My words:
John explains that Jesus laid his life down as a sign of love towards us. So we as his followers must also lay our lives down for our brothers and sisters to show our love for him and them.

For example, I have been working on being loving towards my brothers. Oftentimes, I may yell at them rashly or without caution and not showing love. I’m showing that I am annoyed instead of wanting to help.

The scripture relates to my actions against my brothers. When it talks about laying my life down for others, I think about laying my life down for my brothers and how I haven’t been doing that lately. An example of me being in the right towards my brothers and laying my life down for them is being patient and kind, not showing hate, but a sign of wanting to help.

So we have a few questions to ask ourselves when it comes to imitating Jesus’ love. Therefore, consider the following:

  • Are my actions self-serving?
  • Do I seek to understand rather than make assumptions?
  • Am I being patient?
  • Am I known to be loving? Humble?
