God Can Relate to Your Prayer

Hebrews 4:15-26
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we
have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then
approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to
help us in our time of need.”
Approach God’s throne in weakness confidently (find his power in your weakness).
God has sympathy toward your hardship and trials and temptations.
He wants to help, to give grace and mercy because he wants to meet your needs.

How Jesus Prayed

Hebrews 5:7-9
During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and
tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent
submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once
made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him
This is describing Jesus’s lifetime of prayer as full of “loud cries and tears”
Jesus had confidence that God had the answers – He would “save him”
I would pray more if I’m confident God is the one with power and that saves me
I can’t find my source of strength in ignoring the problems by getting busy, or turning to
shopping/decorating, or through my dearest relationships
I should be fearfully lowering myself before God (reverence involves the sense of being
prostrate before the Maker)
I too often treat God in too casual a manner, forgetting that I deserve death to even try to come
into his presence (like anyone, including the animals that approached Mt. Sinai when Moses
went up to speak with the Lord)
When’s the last time I’ve lifted holy hands in prayer? Prayed all night long? Cried and wept on
my knees?
I’ve become entitled in going before the One I should approach with fear and trembling, yet
confident as He sympathizes with my weaknesses

How is your Prayer Life?

    1. Are you truly going to God in weakness?
    2. What thoughts prevent you from being weak before Christ and God in prayer?
    3. What topic have you avoided in your prayer life because of fear of facing your feelings?
    4. Make a decision to make a radical change in your prayer life!
