Holy:
(1)Dedicated or devoted to the service of God, the church, or religion.
(2)Exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness.
“Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.” – Hebrews 12:14
We can only be holy by faith in Christ. Those who do not have faith in Christ’s righteousness can never become holy.
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”-Hebrews 4:15-16
We must understand that Christ was tempted in every way that we are and yet he did not sin. We can be holy in the way we live if we have faith in his strength and his righteousness working in us. By having this faith, we will have confidence to live a Godly life and understand the grace of God more clearly.
Be Holy
“As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” – 1 Peter 1:14-16
Greek; Hagios” – sacred, physically, pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially, consecrated.
Being holy completely cleanses and purifies our thoughts and actions. Being holy means being truly be set apart from what we were before – in the world – to become like God!
1 Thessalonians 4:7 “For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness.”
- Purification and sanctification from the world is holiness
- To be holy is to be the opposite of the world. Holiness is shown in the heavenly behavior of a person!
