“He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.'”-Matthew 27:43
Trust In God
The Son of God was hanging on the cross at this very moment. Sadly, the people he was dying for did not understand what he was doing. They even mocked him. “He trusts in God.” Truer words could not have been spoken.
Recently we sold our home of 10 years in Phoenix and moved to Tucson to plant a church. Obviously, one would think, “Wow that’s amazing! What an adventure to give up everything for the mission!” However, as much as the idea of bringing the kingdom of God to Tucson was exciting, selling everything and moving to Tucson was quite another. Giving up the home we had so many memories in, where we raised our children, the comfort they had known, in order to come to Tucson and the unknown, was very scary to me as a mother. It was not only a sacrifice I was making, but by extension, my children would also be making.
Entrusting The Future
They loved their school in Phoenix! Because it was an experiential school with animals, music, swimming, and a theater. Therefore, I was worried about finding a new school that would meet all their needs and also not negatively influence my teenage son who is a disciple.
I specifically remember entrusting the future of my son’s lives to God’s perfect, all-knowing plan. I said, “God, you do not call us to follow you so that we will fail. You intend to bring salvation to my family, just as you have before. Staying behind and not following your plan, means going outside of your will, and ultimately, puts our salvation in jeopardy. Not only ours, but all for whom you will call in Tucson. I want to be where you want us to be.”
Trust Brings Salvation
Present-day in Tucson, my children are safely schooling at home and doing quite well, even learning music (guitar and violin) and away from negative influences. My teen son has even baptized his friend Angel! Our new home is a safe haven, as it was before, with many new memories being made while building up God’s kingdom and bringing salvation to many.
Without trusting God, we miss out on God’s salvation.
Trust God Through The Pain
I have seen God provide for us and the Tucson mission team time and time again. It’s a privilege to watch God take, what seems to be, dire circumstances, and bring out of it, miracle upon miracle! God truly is a great God who is humble to save!
Jesus trusted God, even through the pain. Will you?
Ask yourself:
What area of your life do you need to trust God with?
Are you afraid he won’t rescue you?
Will you surrender your future to God?
What decision will you make that shows that you trust God?
What will you do to take action?
Closing thoughts:
If God brings you to it, he will bring you through it.
Recall a time when you trusted God and he rescued you. Share that time with someone today.
