Three Key Goals for 2014!

Greetings from the Valley of The Sun! We are grateful to report that God has blessed us with a 2013 “Thanksgiving” missions contribution that was 102% of our goal! In early 2012 our giving per member was just over $35 per member, but this year disciples have grown in their convictions and now now pledge 51$ per member!

In 2013 God blessed us with 11 Baptisms, 6 restorations, and 5 placing memberships. We are grateful that 11 were able to be sent out to support the plantings in Santa Barbara, Denver, Ventura, Guam, and Gainesville. We are grateful that we’ve seen two recently restored and their marriage and family reunited in Christ – Dan and Laura Barrett! Several more are currently studying the bible to be restored as well! This gives us all hope that God will bring more and more of those that have walked away back to God’s family. However, it also serves to humble us and make us more determined in caring for God’s people and doing all we can to keep the saved “saved.” Part of this determined effort is the Chemical Recovery (CR) ministry. Scott and Sandy Lunde work diligently as house church leaders as well as the leaders of the CR ministry. Thanks to God moving through their efforts as at our 2014 workshop we were able to witness the CR graduation of Pat Nebeker along with AJ and Ronnie Thorson!

In order to Shepherd the flock, you need shepherds. It was faith-building to see Chris and Darby Schultz appointed as Shepherds in training. They have grown tremendously this year – as is evident in that they are always welcoming those with no family into their home for holidays and joyfully serve as the MERCY coordinators! Chris and Darby have also led their bible talk to be the most sacrificial financially consistently in the church, inspiring and calling their ministry to see “Special Missions” as a lifestyle and training them to plan months in advance . Chris also serves as the church administrator and Darby works a full time job and they have two little ones. Increasing the prominence of our CR ministry and appointing Shepherds both play a major role in one of our top three goals in 2014 – the retention of our precious disciples!

Another one of our major goals made in 2013 was to raise up two new house church leader couples, and it is with great encouragement that I was able to appoint Tommy and Ruth Quintanilla as house church leaders for the East and Robb and Teresa Hamblin for the North! Tommy and Ruth both work very hard to reach the lost and have deep convictions on God’s truths, consistently calling others higher in their evangelism and hearts of service. Robb and Teresa are mature and seasoned disciples who have opened their hearts wide and poured themselves into the work of building God’s church here in Phoenix. In dividing up the church this way we are able to ensure that God’s “people.. are satisfied.” Genesis 18:23 which further strengthens the flock and serves to help us propel the kingdom forward towards another of our top 3 goals in 2014 – growing past 100 disciples!

Tommy and Ruth Quintanella have been called by God through the prayers of men to raise up and serve as the East house church leaders! We are so grateful for their growth, friendship, and fierce love for God!

God has risen up a new Spanish speaking bible talk leader – Javier Sandoval! Today he announced that he, along with his new girlfriend Danielle Savedra, will begin a Spanish speaking bible talk in February of 2014!

We are also very excited to announce the engagement of John Smoot and Brittany Miller! Both of these dear disciples were a gift from our sister church in Orlando, sent by the Holy Spirit to Phoenix! “Smoot” and Brittany (aka “BAM”) have been instrumental in coordinating our music ministry and taking it much, much higher with their musical gifts! The both bring a great zeal for evangelism to our ASU campus ministry!

We had an amazing workshop with Argo and Anu Arneson as our special guest speakers. They were powerful in inspiring the disciples here both in their amazing example in the Inland Empire as region leaders but also in their rich experience and bible knowledge! The sisters were moved deeply on Saturday afternoon by Anu’s lesson on the Prayer of A Righteous Woman and she encouraged the whole congregation with her “down to earth” and transparent sharing of her heart for communion on Sunday. Argo also shared a profound understanding of heaven during his sermon on Sunday “My Answered Prayers.” Argo shared about how he looks forward to the day he can speak to his older son, as he is in a “body that is broken” with severe autism but he has a “spirit that is whole” which is eternal. Many of us were touched powerfully by Argo’s honest life-sharing and preaching as he inspired us to “Believe”, to “Reason”, and to “Go!” during the closing sermon of the workshop “My Answered Prayers!”

The workshop is an excellent start to another of our 3 key goals in 2014 – and that’s that every single disciple would be inspired to get deeper in their personal relationship with God. It is our most desperate prayer that we will all “love the LORD [our] God with all [our] heart and with all of [our] soul and with all of [our] mind” more and more in 2014, and to our Father be all the Gory!
